As the New Year approaches, this is the perfect time for reflection on the choices and actions we have made during the last 12 months. Did we choose to act with kindness and consideration?

Did we follow the route that led us further along the path to spiritual development? Did we travel consciously aware of our physical and spiritual experiences this year?

It’s easy to get caught up in the hectic nature of work, family and life in general, especially as challenging as this last year has been! The importance of taking time for our own spiritual unfoldment and practice cannot be overstated. Now, as ever before, contemplation, prayer, and meditation lead to accountability and personal growth.

This is what makes Spiritualism a daily walk. Not just a theology for Sunday, but a religion of knowing and conviction expressed through our 9 Principles. These 9 Principles, evolving as our understanding of Natural and Spiritual Law grows, instruct and inform us in our ideal attitude, conduct and goals.

We are all eternal spiritual beings sharing this journey of discovery and advancement. Our shared ambition is also our individual mandate, expressed in Principle 7.

We affirm the moral responsibility of individuals and that we make our own happiness or unhappiness as we obey or disobey Nature’s physical and spiritual laws. Let’s all take a moment before the New Year dawns and dedicate ourselves not to the past, but to the bright future laying in front of us, awaiting our creation.

“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day” —  Edith Lovejoy Pierce
