Can you say Challah? Nope! On this night we say Matzah! The Jewish Community Center, Jewish Nevada and the LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada are opening their doors to more than Elijah this Passover. This year we welcome both the LGBTQ and general community to a very special Passover Seder. Come for the Kosher for Passover wine, matzah and vegetarian meal, and stay for the camaraderie and lively Passover dinner with new friends. The Seder will be held April 13.

The LGBTQ Passover Seder is an inclusive program open to gay, straight, Jewish and non-Jewish, families and individuals. You can also stop by to learn more about one of the most important Jewish holidays as we welcome clergy from synagogues throughout Southern Nevada to lead the Seder.

The Passover Seder is a chance to learn about the short, but important journey, Jews took from slavery to freedom, and to join millions of Jews and non-Jews all over the world who are doing the same thing. Reflecting upon the Jewish people’s liberation from slavery in Egypt, the story of Passover includes love, deception, belief, hope and freedom– a story many people can relate to. The great thing about a Passover Seder is that it can be enjoyed by all faiths, colors and sexual orientations because liberation is at the core of each our stories.

Why will this Seder be different from all other seders? Because we are breaking the matzah as one community – lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, queer, straight and we hope many more!

Whether you have been to a Passover Seder before, join us for a wonderful retelling of the story of the exodus of Jews from Egypt. As my non-Jewish friend said to me after attending his first Passover Seder, “Oh, my God, this is story of The Prince of Egypt!”

The LGBTQ Passover Seder will be held at the LGBTQ Center on April 13, starting at 6 pm. Tickets cost $25 for adults, $18 for students ages 13-22, $10 for children 12 and under. Active members of the military are free. Register online at https://events.idonate. com/lgbqtseder. For more information, contact the JCC at 702-794-0090.
